Arnold H. Bohle

Arnold H. Bohle, 91, of Dubuque, Iowa and formerly of Sumner, Iowa died Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek, 2029 Viking Avenue, Sumner, Iowa with Rev. Dr. Kristian Kincaid officiating. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., August 28, 2015, at the church and for one hour preceding services on Saturday. Memorials may be made in his name to the Becky Werner Memorial Scholarship Fund, Attn: Pat Dunn, Highland Community College Foundation, 2998 West Pearl City Road, Freeport, Illinois 61032 or a charity of the donor’s choice. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner is assisting Arnold’s family. 

Arnold Henry, son of Richard and Mary (Mundt) Bohle was born August 23, 1924, in the Buck Creek area south of Sumner. He was baptized September 21, 1924, and confirmed March 21, 1937, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, rural Sumner. He received his education in the Dayton Township #6 Country School. On June 15, 1945, he was united in marriage with Marie Zell, at St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek. They lived and farmed in the Sumner area for many years prior to moving to Milan, Missouri where they farmed for seven years. They then moved to Dubuque, Iowa in 1985, where they lived for thirty years. In addition to farming, Arnold also drove semi for many years. He was driving regularly until three years ago, and even recently wanted to renew his CDL. Arnold was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek where he held various church offices and served as president of the Lutheran Brotherhood. He was instrumental in building Peace Lutheran Church in Milan, Missouri when he and Marie lived there, and was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dubuque, Iowa.

Arnold is survived by his children; Daniel (Anne) Bohle of Cortez, Colorado, Wendell (Diane) Bohle of Sumner, Iowa; his son-in-law Jeffrey Werner of Stockton, Illinois; Terry (Susan) Bohle of Bolingbrook, Illinois; Mark (Becky) Bohle of Cresco, Iowa; Jeffrey (Connie) Bohle of Epworth, Iowa; Bradley (Mary) Bohle of Milan, Missouri and Thomas (Stacy) Bohle of Clinton, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one sister, Arnetta (Bernard) Pattison of Fayette, Iowa.

Arnold was preceded in death by his wife of nearly seventy years, Marie, who died March 2nd of this year, a daughter, Rebecca Werner; and infant son, Randall Bohle.

We are so sorry for your loss! I just a had a great conversation with Arnold on his lawn tracker right before he sold the house. He was so happy at his new home! He was such a great neighbor and friend, he will be deeply missed. I hope your family finds comfort knowing that he is with Marie again. We will miss him!
